textamerica provides great service: Free Christmas Wish List moblogs

    textamerca_christmas_wish_lists.jpg

From picturephoning.com learned that moblog hosting company textamerica has come up with a terrific idea for a moblog -- a Christmas Wish List. The company has created several different templates that enable you to post photos of gifts you'd like to receive.

I have multiple textamerica moblogs for testing purposes (check out "My Test Moblogs" in the left hand column) and it took me a minute or two to set up my Christmas Wish List moblog. I don't know when textamerica first posted this idea, but I wouldn't be surprised if I were one of the first to create a wish list moblog because my URL is wishlist.textamerica.com, and I assume "wishlist" would have been snapped up quickly.

Anyone want to buy my URL? Just kidding -- don't contact me!

As a "technical" note, you can see that for the first posting to my wish list moblog, the headline says, "Money is always in" and the text reads, "Money is always in season." Sprint PCS doesn't offer any "subject" field when sending a photo, so there's no way to specify a headline.

    Suggestions for enhancements

If I were textamerica, I'd probably create templates for a Hanukkah (how do you spell that holiday?) Wish List for Jewish mobloggers. Also, textamerica runs Google Ads on its moblogs to generate some income. I wonder if there's a better way to capitalize on the Christmas Wish List opportunity, such as establishing a relationship with CNET Shopper or Yahoo Shopping that would be bring in more revenues.

JIWIRE, for example, has a strong relationship with CNET Shopper and the JIWIRE articles (which are excellent, by the way) are peppered with links to Shopper. JIWIRE's president and CEO was the head of CNET Shopper.

If you want a free moblog, it's fair to give some leeway to textamerica (or any other moblog or Weblog company) to come up with appropriate ways to generate revenues. Just my $.02.

    Disclosure

As a disclosure, I did some wireless data consulting for textamerica, as I previously wrote in my other Weblog, but my contract has ended.
