The Register today posted an interesting article about the development of continuous game play -- whether at home or on the move -- and how camera phones are being integrated into games. One example cited is the Sony Ericsson P900 and T637 will be part of the plot of Ubisoft's "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow" game.
In addition, a wireless version of the game is being developed for play on camera phones. The article notes, "It takes a moment to take this in and there are two messages here.
"The phone now has good enough graphics to show a game that was previously the domain of home entertainment systems and the two cultures are seen to be overlapping enough to cross market between, so we are not the only ones that see drivers in place to link phone games to the home gaming platforms."
The bigger picture
The bigger picture here is that games need to provide "continuous immersive absorption," the article says. In other words, the same game should be playable on everything from a big-screen television to a desktop PC to a dedicated game console to a portable game device to a cellular phone.
Also, the games need to be optimized for wide area, local area and "personal" area play -- including Blueooth interactivity and SMS.
