From Engadget I learned of a very brief post on TreoCentral that says a new Treo 600 -- without a camera -- will be available for Sprint PCS on April 21. That's all the news, except there's "more to come on this shortly."
I'm tempted to say that the Luddites have gotten their way, but it's not quite as simple as name-calling. As I've written many times before, there certainly are places where camera phones, or any recording device, is a security risk and shouldn't be allowed.
So if you want a Treo 600 and you can't get one because of legitimate security considerations, this might be a welcome solution.
And yet...
However, if most of the purchases of a camera-less Treo will result from brain-dead corporations that don't have legitimate security problems but are simply acting like scared rabbits at the thought of employees taking embarrassing or indecent photos, then it is indeed a win for the Luddites (or idiot executives).
If I can't be obnoxious when I write, what's the point?
