The world's first music video shot with a camera phone, the Nokia 3650, is available for viewing on textamerica's Web site, according to a textamerica press release that will be issued tomorrow (Wednesday).
The musical group, XFYA, shot the video, called "Haber Get Down," from their upcoming album, "Late Night at Denny's." The video was shot in San Diego by the performers, Steve, Dave, Kim and Shaun.
In less than 24 hours the video was viewed more than 1,000 times, according to the press release.
Cheap global exposure
Chris Hoar, textamerica's founder, says in the press release, "Now any group or band with a video enabled camera phone can make and post their own music videos direct to their moblog online, and at textamerica that also means that their video will get global exposure.
""For entertainers on a budget who are looking for a start in the music or film business, textamerica is the perfect platform. We believe that this particular music video will encourage a lot more creative talent to take a serious look at the ever growing capabilities of camera phones and moblogging."
No threat to MTV
I saw the video (that requires QuickTime) and I can assure you that it's no threat the MTV. Since my musical tastes runs toward Luciano Pavarotti, I'm not much of a judge (well, I am, actually) of the musical quality of the video, but the video quality itself was -- to put it charitably -- well, viewable.
But you must remember that the Nokia 3650 has been available for several years and now there are two megapixel camera phones with higher quality video capabilities. Indeed, I believe you'll see dramatically better video quality beginning this year.
Handset vendors in Korea are emphasizing camcorder capabilities (as well as higher resolution cameras and MP3 players) for camera phones that are being introduced this year. The fuzzy video of today will be a much sharper video tomorrow.
