Mike Wendland, a computer columnist for the Detroit Free Press, writes about camera phones and moblogs, and comes up with a useful application.
Wendland reports about a father and son who found a closeout sale on leather coats. The son's girlfriend wanted a leather coat so the son sent her camera phone photos of several choices.
"I thought that was sure a unique use of technology that I hadn't thought of before -- remote shopping by picture phone," says the boy's father.
Camera phones and shoping
Several months ago I had lunch with two executives from Materna, a software company that sells carrier-class platforms for MMS.
One of the executives showed me his camera phone photos of computer printers. He was in the market for a new printer and took photos of printers -- with the price displayed -- as a way to jog his memory.
I believe there will be loads of ways consumers will use camera phones to help them shop.
Wedland's moblog
Wendland has had a TypePad-hosted moblog for more than a year and uses a Treo 600 camera phone, among other cameras. "What amazes me is how often I get e-mail from total strangers who send along comments about my pictures," he writes.
"Such is the power of pictures, I guess -- and the lure of phonecams," Wendland says.
I'm not amazed, but I'm certainly glad that camera phone users are finding all sorts of reasons to take and send photos.
I think soon camera phones will have us throwing away our laptops.
The ammount of storage in small packages is amazing.
