Edmonton, Canada legislature bans camera phones in chamber
The Edmonton, Canada legislature has banned the use of camera phones in the chamber after the Speaker of that body, Ken Kowalski, chastised members for "breeches of decorum," according to an article from the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.
Kowalski says, ""In recent months, there's been the infusion in this assembly of cellular phones that also have cameras attached, and pictures are being taken. That is an invasion of privacy, but more importantly, that's an invasion of the privilege of the members of this assembly.
"That is not an acceptable practice."
Hire a photographer
Kowalski says the members of the legislature who want photos of themselves in the chamber should hire a professional photographer to take photos from the gallery.
I wish the article would have reported exactly how the legislators have been using camera phones. Self portraits? Photos of other house members?
And, have the photos been sent via e-mail to constituents or posted on the Web?
Inquiring minds want to know!
