Siemens introduces CFX65 VGA camera phone, "flashlight"
Siemens has introduced the CFX65 VGA camera phone (see below) that it's also promoting as a flashlight. The phone has two screen, an internal color screen --65K CSTN display (160 x 128 pixels) -- and a smaller black and white external screen (96 x 64 pixels).
The handset has an LED flash that the press release is promoting as a big advantage to the target market. Thorsten Heins, the president of Siemens' mobile phones divisions, says in the press release, "The CFX65 combines striking looks with easy to use technology for young style conscious consumers that want the latest communication options.
"By adding an integrated flash, we’ve made this the handset relevant to their active lifestyle!”
Grasping at straws?
I don't know why a flash is especially important to people with active lifestyles. I guess people who are active get out and want to take photos in dark restaurants or whatever. I'm also not sure how important a flashlight ("torch") capability is in selling a handset, but Siemens includes the feature in the headline and also has posted three photos of the flashlight "in action" (see left) on its Web site.
I assume the LED flash is employed for the flashlight feature.
I do find a "flashlight" capability useful. My palmOne Treo 600 has a large, very bright screen and I've used it many times to light an object. But I don't see palmOne promoting this feature, although I suspect a fair number of users have taken advantage of it.
Perhaps Siemens is grasping at straws to promote a handset that is unremarkable?
how do i get a free phone
