The South Korean government mandated all camera phones must have loud shutter sounds to alert people that a photo is being taken, but software is appearing on the Web to eliminate the sound, according to an article in The Chosun Ilbo.
The article reports "several ways to mute the 'clicking noise' are already spreading on the Web." The article doesn't provice any more details.
The Ministry of Infromation and Communication and the Telecommunications Technology Association mandated that in July camera phones must sound an alert as loud as 60db to 68db.
Security, privacy concerns
The Chosun Ilbo says, "With advances in definition and memory in the latest models, camera phones have become a tool for criminals such as industrial spies. It is very dangerous to visit saunas or swimming pools if you are a celebrity.
"Naked pictures of celebrities have been posted on the Web. A security expert said, 'You should think that at least three cameras are watching you when you're in public.'"
