From picturephoning I learned about an article in Australian IT that Vodafone in Australia is continuing its poicy of not charging for picture messaging.
Vodafone's picture messaging grew 1,000 percent during the three-month trial, the article says. Vodafone will continue free picture messaging until January 31, 2005.
Kelly Smith, a spokesperson for Vodafone says, ""We recognise that this is a new technology, and at 75c ($.52) a message, some people may be too worried about making a mistake." She says it will take another 12 months for picture messaging to become widespread.
The article doesn't says whether Vodafone's picture messaging service is completely free, whether users still have to pay airtime charges and whether photos may be sent anywhere for free -- to handsets, e-mail addresses, moblogs, etc.
I wish more providers did this just to get things started.
