Flickr was just sold, and now it's Snapfish's turn. Hewlett-Packard today said it has signed a "definitive agreement" to purchase the online photo album and processing company Snapfish, according to the H-P press release.
"Snapfish's expertise in online photo services, coupled with HP's worldwide customer reach, will rapidly enhance HP's ability to capitalize on the growing market for online photo printing," the press release says.
Snapfish has more than 13 million registered users with more than 350 million photos stored online and is signing up more than 500,000 per month, the release says.
What's not often mentioned in articles is Snapfish providing its online photo album platform to many other companies, such as Circuit City, Cingular, Juno, NetZero and Comcast.
Snapfish and mobile
In August 2004 I wrote about Snapfish's first retail store in Alexandria, Virginia, not far from Washington, D.C. Snapfish is very interested in camera phones. Last year Christopher Wu, director of mobile for Yahoo, joined Snapfish as vice president of mobile.
