Yahoo purchases online photo album company Flickr

From picturephoning.com I learned that Yahoo has purchased the online photo album company Flickr, according to an article from CNET News.  Flickr has posted information about the purchase on its blog, including more than 170 comments.

This is interesting for a few reasons.  One reason is Flickr is one of the most innovative online album companies.  Anyone in the camera phone business should have been examining Flickr's services.

Another reason is Yahoo recently unveiled Yahoo 360, a beta blogging site (see below).  Yahoo 360 includes online photo albums, the ability to post via camera phones, Internet radio and tools for sharing recommendations about restaurants, movies, music, etc.Yahoo_360_beta_site

Yahoo + Yahoo 360 + Flickr could be a powerful combination.  It will be interesting to see how it develops and how camera phones -- and video blogging -- are integrated into the total offering.
