    From picturephoning.com I see that

From picturephoning.com I see that the head of the company the produced the international TV hit “Big Brother” is working with pop group Sugababes to produce “the first British interactive reality series made exclusively for mobile phones,” according to an article in TimesOnline.

The cellular phone show, “Get Close To…” starts this Friday and runs for five weeks.  The article reports, “The female trio will film a backstage video diary using their own phones, giving fans an insight into their lives as they join Robbie Williams on his world tour.

“Fans will interact with the band, setting challenges that the group must complete and posting their own mobile-shot films in response to competitions set by the group. Fans will be invited to send films of dance routines that the Sugababes will incorporate into their stage act.”

The show is a partnership between Endemol, the company that produces “Big Brother,” O2 and Universal Music.

    Economics

“Get Close To…” will be produced daily and consumers will pay 50 pence ($.93) for episode.

Let’s see….That’s 7 days x 5 weeks x 50 pence = 17.50 pounds = $32.55 (depending on exchange rates, of course).  Perhaps it’s only five days a week.  In any case, that’s a fair amount of money for brief segments.

The article says the show “is delivered in two-minute chunks each day, a format believed to match the viewing attention span its target audience.”

Ha!  As a snob since I was in junior high school, I find that two-minute attention span, but I will refrain from the many comments I’m thinking of!
