U.K. cellular operator Vodafone says its Sky Mobile TV service, produced in conjunction with BSkyB, has some 100,000 subscribers that are downloading more than 70,000 videos per day, according to an article in Telecoms.com.
"Vodafone is offering two packages based on content from Sky, divided into a sports, news and a factual pack, as well as a music and entertainment package," the article says (see below). Vodafone is offering a third package with programs from such broadcasters and content providers as Channel 4, HBP and Eurosport.
Each wireless TV package cost 5 pounds ($9.38).More successful than expected
Roger Matthews, the head of sports and entertainment for the Vodafone Group, said during the Mobile Entertainment Market conference in the U.K., "There are more subscribers than we expected and they are paying more than we expected."
He said name brands, such as Sky, are helping to win customers who are willing to pay for a well known brand. "Sky helped customers understand mobile TV," Matthews said.
